Abstract

Two-dimensional reactions: Modification of organothiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) adsorbed on solid surfaces opens new possibilities for applications of such systems. However, reactions at organic monolayers display vastly different kinetics than in solution and are shown to initiate at defects in the monolayer structure and proceed along a one-dimensional reaction front.
