SURMOF based „Designer Solids“ as Photonic Nanomaterials for Optical and LHs Applications

At the IPS-20 (International Conference for Photochemical Conversion and Storage of Solar Energy, Berlin 27 July - 1 August 2014) the jury was impressed by innovative concepts for SURMOFs: the first poster prize in the category "Molecular and Biomimetic Artificial Photosynthesis, Photoelectrochemistry and New Materials, Solar Water Splitting and CO2-Conversion" went to scientists from the Institute for Functional Interfaces.

In the research work of the Solar Team at the IFG (Prof. Dr. Wöll, Dr. Redel, Dr. Liu, J. Liu) and the INT (Dr. Walheim/INT) SURMOFs are described as "designer solids", which find new applications in optical, photonic and optoelectronic devices, but can also serve as building blocks for artificial biomimetic membranes or also for "efficient" light

This novel class of materials offers a wide range of potential for increasing efficiency for novel solar cells or water-splitting biomimetic photo membranes by growing up oriented, crystalline and quasi-epitaxial photoelectrodes and thus represents an important technology building block for applications in the field of artificial photosynthesis.
